The Private Institute for Climate Change Research (ICC) as the executing entity of the initiative “Planning of 6 watersheds including piloting of a payment mechanism for environmental services, and implementation of landscape management tools in 10 municipalities of region 3 of the Project Promoting Sustainable and Resilient Territories in Landscapes of the Central Volcanic Chain of Guatemala”, organized a tour around some points of the six watersheds it is helping to plan.

On the first day of the tour (June 23) Eng. Martín Méndez y Méndez, the Deputy Minister of Water of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN), participated in a tour around some points of the Achiguate and Coyolate watersheds.
During the activity, biophysical aspects were confirmed in the field and interaction between participants and local social stakeholders was achieved; as well as the recognition of the characteristics of the watersheds by the Vice-Ministry of Water.
The tour took place from Wednesday, June 23 to Friday, June 25, 2021, with the participation of representatives of: MARN Watershed Unit, MAGA Watershed Department, ICC, Ocosito River Technical Table and local social stakeholders.

These actions meet those executed by the ICC, where watershed management plans linked to the 19-2021 Government Agreement are being carried out (to promote the protection and conservation of the watersheds of Guatemala), where the MARN has the role of coordinator to make sure that the legal dispositions are being complied with.

Guatemala is implementing a grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to execute the Project Promoting Sustainable and Resilient Territories in Landscapes of the Central Volcanic Chain in Guatemala, whose national implementing partner is the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN), and the implementing agency, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
