The Private Institute for Climate Change Research, through the Capacity Building program, gave a diploma course on Community Adaptation to Climate Change to two groups (community leaders and municipal technicians) from the municipality of Pueblo Nuevo, Suchitepéquez.

This process is carried out to comply with the ICC’s goal of strengthening the capacities of key stakeholders of the Guatemalan society in the area of climate change. A total of 14 community leaders and 12 municipal technicians participated in both courses, for a total of 26 people. The two processes took place between March and May 2021.

The content was distributed in 6 sessions (3 hours each) where the following topics were shared: conceptual basis in watersheds, watershed planning, scientific basis of climate change, climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation planning, and climate change adaptation. Participants completed a series of assignments to strengthen their learning.

At the closing ceremony Eng. Pablo Yax, coordinator of the Capacity Building and Communications program, reaffirmed the purpose of the diploma course to the participants.

The closing ceremony was successfully held on Friday, August 06, 2021, with community leaders and municipal technicians from the municipality of Pueblo Nuevo Suchitepéquez.
