This afternoon, the Community Adaptation to Climate Change training started in San Sebastian, Retalhuleu; at least 32 people participated in the opening ceremony, since they will broaden their knowledge about climate change in the upcoming months.
The Mayor Francisco Guillermo Chay participated in the opening ceremony. He encouraged participants to take advantage of the training, since it will benefit all of them.
Noe Mendez, Second Councilor, Julio Ordonez, Fourth Councilor, both from the Commission for Promotion of Economic, Tourism, Environment, and Natural Resources of the Town Hall of San Sebastian also joined the event.
Likewise, people representing 22 communities joined, including COCODES, the sectors: women, productive (transport), agriculture, youth, town, indigenous and youth pastoral.
During the training, participants will learn about integrated watershed management, rainwater storage, and disaster risk management. Three fieldtrips will complement the information provided in the three modules given during the training.
This training is possible thanks to the inter institutional work between the Private Institute for Climate Change Research -ICC-, the Town Hall of San Sebastian, Retalhuleu and it is supported by the scholarship fund Study Opportunities, which is funded by the Association of Guatemalan Sugar Producers -ASAZGUA-.
