Authorities of the Private Institute for Climate Change Research -ICC-, the Association of Independent Banana Producers -APIB-, and the National Banana Company -BANASA- opened the Chiquirines Weather Station today.
Dr Alex Guerra, director of the ICC, Gabriela Garcia, director of APIB and Miguel Culebro, Luis Ponce y Jose Ordonez, all of them representing BANASA joined the event.
The Chiquirines Weather Station has sensors that provide information about rainfall, wind speed and wind direction, relative humidity, temperature, solar radiation and atmospheric pressure.
All of the information generated by the station is updated every 15 minutes and it is available through the ICC’s Weather Station Network portal free of charge.

“For BANASA, it is very important to participate in the efforts that the ICC leads, because their work benefits all of us”, said Bernardo Roehrs, Corporate Director and he also stated, “with the station we will be prepared against any change the climatic conditions suffer in the area”.
Gabriela Garcia, director of APIB, highlighted the importance of the station because “we know that by accessing climate information, promptly, it is possible to anticipate to critical situations that can affect communities and enterprises”.
Alex Guerra, PhD, director of the ICC, said, “the importance of a weather station lies in the information that is gathered from a specific place, which allows to create a log of the changes in climate, indispensable to make analysis and make decisions in pro of all of the sectors”.
