Today, May 31, 2022, the ICC as executor of the grant called “Implementation of adaptation measures to climate variability and change to contribute to food and nutritional security and the reduction of child malnutrition in communities and municipalities in the department of Sololá, Guatemala -MACCSAN-” financed by the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development -AECID-, made the official delivery of one of the seven rainwater harvesting and storage systems -SCALL- at the Chuarixché Rural School, El Tablón Village, Sololá.
With the implementation of the SCALL, the children of the Chuarixché School will have access to safe water for consumption and different daily uses.
With these actions we join efforts in the implementation of measures for community adaptation to climate variability and change, as a preventive action against the shortage of water resources caused by the increase in population and greater demand for human consumption coupled with the possible reduction of rainfall for the department.
It is important to note that this intervention has been coordinated with the Ministry of Education, teachers, parents, community mayor and the COCODE of the community.
Below, we share with you the technical characteristics of the project:
Through this project, the school will benefit a student population of 321 students and 16 teachers, thus contributing to food and nutritional security through the supply of quality water for human consumption.
The delivery ceremony was attended by David Montesinos, representative of AECID; Alex Guerra, Ph.D., general director of the ICC; Carlos Humberto Guarquez, municipal mayor of Sololá; Juan Cojtin representing school parents; Victor Chumil Chiroy, educational supervisor; Agustín Chumil Chumil, School Principal; Victoriano Orozco Solís; Architect German Alfaro of ICC; Pablo Yax López of the ICC, coordinator of the project; the community mayor; and other guests.
