The Instituto Privado de Investigación sobre Cambio Climático (ICC) was born on July 27, 2010, a year in which different climatic events had a significant impact on the country, especially on the south coast due to flooding. For this reason, a group of visionary companies from the sugar sector decided to invest in scientific research in order to mitigate the negative climate impact on Guatemalan society.
Since then we have focused on developing research programs that contribute to the design of strategies to reduce vulnerability, mitigation and adaptation to climate change in communities and productive systems.
We currently work in Guatemala and El Salvador, where we operate through our five programs: Integrated Watershed Management, Disaster Risk Management, Capacity Building and Outreach, Climate and Hydrology Research, and Sustainability of Productive Systems.
