Students of environmental engineering at the Rafael Landivar University participated this last Wednesday in a fieldtrip, to become familiar with the mitigation works against floods with bio engineering techniques at the Coyolate River in Nueva Concepcion, Escuintla.

The fieldtrip also included strategic points at the Manantial Plots, where besides expanding their knowledge in the integration of traditional protection works against floods, they also learned about the integration of riverside forests in the Canoguitas Village. They also expanded their knowledge about the importance of using of living barriers (vegetation), as an alternative way to mitigate.

The visit was guided by German Alfaro and Francisco Fuentes, both specialists in Disaster Risk Management of the ICC. 16 students from URL Central Campus participated in the trip.
