On March 20th we received a visit of fifth year agronomy students from the Centro Universitario del Norte (CUNOR) from Cobán whom carried out a flow measurement practice on the Madre Vieja River, in Cocales at Suchitepéquez department.

One of the main activity objectives was to learn how to use the different measuring instruments in the field, like hydrological pinwheel, an instrument they do not have at the university center, commented Eng. Adriana Montejo, one of the teachers who organized the visit.

"We have been working other type of practices and methods and the most important thing with this visit is to develop skills or continue developing skills in the measurement of water resources and learn about the more sophisticated equipment and methods that are currently used” added the teacher.

In addition to the measurement, the young students also learned about the work that the ICC carries out in integrated water management on the southern coast, the operation of the hydrometric stations and the importance of generating and using this information.

José Girón, one of the students, confirmed that the visit was an experience that helps them to learn more about water behavior through flows measurement and this is a useful tool for the integrated watershed management course.
