The course on surface water measurements (gauging) successfully concluded last Friday with a practical session held in the secondary streams of the Achiguate and Nahualate rivers. The course, was focused to technicians and students in related fields, also contributes to the generation of hydrological data and information that can benefit Guatemalan society.
During the sessions, participants acquired knowledge about watersheds, integrated water management, and flow measurement, in addition to learning about different experiences on the southern coast of Guatemala. Furthermore, in the field session, participants were able to put into practice the knowledge acquired in the previous sessions.
Claudia González, who participated in the course, commented that “The ICC carries out a fascinating process, thanks to its wide experience in river monitoring.” It is crucial to reinforce our understanding of these topics to apply them in other areas of the country where technical and scientific information on gauging is scarce. Through these skill development processes, the ICC aims to foster more effective water governance in the country.
