A group of primary school teachers from public schools in the municipalities of Sololá, Concepción, and Santa Cruz La Laguna successfully completed the training process: Climate Change Diploma. The main objective was to strengthen the teachers’ knowledge about climate change and replicate it within the educational community, especially with the children in the prioritized municipalities of the project (Sololá, Concepción, Santa Cruz La Laguna, San Antonio Palopó, and San Lucas Tolimán).
The diploma course included seven in-person sessions covering the following topics: watersheds, environment, scientific basis of climate change, mitigation and adaptation to climate change, and a field trip to the Madre Vieja river basin.
At the closing event, 70 out of the 345 teachers who participated in the various groups organized in the municipalities attended. Special guests included Mrs. Cristina Aldama, Coordinator of AECID in Guatemala; Salvador Petzey from DIDEDUC-SOLOLÁ; Alejandro Vicente Vásquez from MARN-SOLOLÁ; representatives from the Secretariat of Food and Nutritional Security of the Presidency (SESAN) and the departmental government.
This diploma course was implemented within the framework of the project: “Contributing to climate-resilient socio-ecological landscapes for family prosperity and nutrition in Guatemala and El Salvador,” funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) under its ARAUCLIMA program. It was also supported by ICC and coordinated with the Ministry of Education of the Sololá department.
