in San Pedro Yepocapa

May 7 , 2025

On May 7, the oath ceremony for five Local Disaster Reduction Coordinators (COLRED) was held in the area directly influenced by the Fuego volcano. The communities of Morelia, Panimache I and II, Los Yucales, and El Porvenir, all part of the municipality of San Pedro Yepocapa, now have a total of 51 sworn-in individuals committed to risk management and community protection.

This event is part of the IXCHEL-EDIMBURGO 2024 project, aimed at strengthening capacities to address challenges associated with volcanic activity. Within a comprehensive organizational structure, COLRED members are expected to implement effective measures to mitigate risks and enhance the safety of their communities, promoting a deeper understanding of their environment and appropriate emergency responses.

The oath ceremony took place at the community hall in Morelia village and was organized by the Climate Change Institute (ICC), the SE-CONRED Volcano Prevention Unit, and World Vision, with support from the municipal risk management office of San Pedro Yepocapa. This initiative reinforces the commitment of institutions and the community to disaster preparedness and response.
