Global weather and climate information play a crucial role in decision-making across various sectors, including daily life, agriculture, energy, and water resource management. Effective monitoring of weather variables and understanding their impacts on daily activities are essential. For this reason, the ICC actively monitors meteorological variables in Guatemala to support informed decisions.
In 2024, 35 stations were distributed across the southern region of the country, measuring and transmitting data every 15 minutes via GPRS to a cloud server. The data collected include precipitation, temperature, relative humidity, global solar radiation, leaf wetness, wind speed, and wind direction. The data undergoes weekly quality control, and the stations receive monthly preventive maintenance.
The objective of this document is to characterize the monthly and annual behavior of precipitation and temperature during 2024, including information about the start and end of the rainy season, the behavior of the “canícula” (dry spell), the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, and the “El Niño” phenomenon.
