Last Saturday November 11th, the Mariano Galvez University held its Social Forum through the college of Social Work. The forum was called “Corporate Social Responsibility CSR in Guatemala: Challenges for Social Work”. The activity was held in Santa Lucia Cotzumalguapa, and it welcomed the university’s authorities, representatives from the agro industry, student body, special guests, and mass media.
The group of panelists was conformed by Dr. Ruben Aroldo Espinoza, Fundazucar´s Regional Director, Lorena Marroquin, Community Relations and Projects Coordinator for La Union Sugar Mill, and Francisco Fuentes of the Private Institute for Climate Change Research ICC.
The forum socialized the different actions and programs executed through CSR and their impact in the communities, the contributions made through strategic alliances towards common objectives, and the experiences in Social Work: the future challenges. Also, the ICC developed the topic “Risk Management as a strategy within Corporate Social Responsibility, programs and main achievements”.
This activity allows socializing the work and commitment of the CSR that has been developed in the area through different institutions. It also allows a window of opportunities to strengthen the educational processes in higher education through exchanging experiences, since students, whose academic formation focuses in the matrix of CRS, can strengthen their capacities and obtain a complementary perspective to their educational framework from a professional and labor background.
