University students deepen their understanding of meteorological data use during a visit to ICC

March 12, 2026

On March 12, we welcomed a group of second-year students from the University Technician Program in Computer Science at Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, South Campus. The visit was led by Eng. Alan Vásquez, who introduced the students to the operation of ICC’s network of meteorological stations and highlighted the importance of using climate information across various productive and research sectors.

As part of the visit, the students had the opportunity to acquire knowledge about one of the ICC’s meteorological stations; they explored the equipment, sensors, and processes involved in the collection, transmission, and storage of climate data. Given their background in computer science, the discussion placed particular emphasis on data management systems, automation models, and digital platforms used for the continuous monitoring of meteorological conditions.

The session concluded with an open Q&A segment and a group photograph. We appreciate the interest shown by students in understanding how data science and technology are applied within the climate field, and we reaffirm our commitment to expanding educational opportunities that enhance the region’s technical capacities.
