ICC has successfully renewed its Equivalency Determination (ED) Certificate, issued by NGOsource; an initiative of TechSoup and the Council on Foundations that facilitates international philanthropic giving. The renewed certificate was issued on June 11, 2026, and will remain valid through December 31, 2027.
ICC first obtained this certification in 2022 and has maintained its validity through periodic renewals, reaffirming its continued compliance with internationally recognized standards of governance, transparency, and institutional management.
An Equivalency Determination is an independent assessment through which a nonprofit organization established outside the United States is recognized as the equivalent of a U.S. public charity under Sections 501(c)(3) and 509(a) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. This designation enables U.S. foundations and donors to provide grants more efficiently by reducing additional expenditure responsibility and due diligence requirements, thereby facilitating international philanthropy.
The renewal confirms that ICC’s institutional structure, charitable purposes, governance, and operations continue to meet the criteria required to be recognized as the equivalent of a U.S. public charity. Since 2022, the Equivalency Determination has been issued for Luis von Ahn Foundation, enabling the Foundation to rely on this certification when supporting funding processes for ICC.
Maintaining this international recognition further strengthens ICC’s institutional credibility among strategic partners, international donors, and philanthropic foundations. It also reinforces the Institute’s ability to advance scientific research, ecosystem conservation, sustainable natural resource management, and climate change adaptation initiatives across Guatemala and El Salvador.
