270 More people commit to risk
management in Escuintla

The swearing-in of 23 Local Coordinators for Disaster Reduction (COLRED) has taken place in communities located in the influence area of the Fuego volcano. Eight of them are in the municipality of Escuintla, five in Masagua, three in Iztapa, and seven in Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa; a total of 270 additional people now committed to risk management and community protection.

These efforts are part of the IXCHEL-EDIMBURGO 2024 project, which focuses on volcanic threats respond capacity building. COLRED members are expected to implement effective risk reduction measures, fostering a culture of prevention and heightened awareness on emergency response.

Swearing-in Ceremony in Iztapa:

The swearing-in ceremonies were held in various municipal and community venues in each municipality, organized by the ICC, the Volcano Prevention Unit of the Executive Secretariat of the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED), Region V-CONRED, and Caritas Escuintla, with support from municipal risk management offices. This initiative reaffirms the institutional and citizen commitment to disaster preparedness in the region.
