Community Leaders from Sacatepéquez Receive Training in Climate Change Adaptation

The closing ceremony of a community adaptation diploma course was held at ICC facilities, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Livestock and Food (MAGA) and the U.S. organization Peace Corps. The course was aimed at community leaders from the municipalities of Ciudad Vieja, Santa Catarina, and San Antonio Aguas Calientes in Sacatepéquez department.

The diploma course consisted of six in-person sessions where participants developed knowledge about climate change, community-level impacts and adaptation measures, so they can implement in their homes.

“The diploma course has been an advancement in our lives because they taught us how to use water, trees, and everything; I am very grateful for being considered.”

Thanks, that residents learned to manage and implement a rainwater harvesting and storage system, the Peace Corps organization managed to secure international funds to install 25 rainwater harvesting and drip irrigation systems in the mentioned communities.

Patricia Polanco from MAGA thanked ICC for their support in the diploma course and highlighted the importance of this process in securing these funds, which will benefit the families of the participants.
