At least 400 people are being trained in change and adaptation to climate change this January by the community leaders of Tiquisate, Champerico, El Asintal and Retalhuleu City, who are finishing the “Community adaptation to Climate Change training”, a project sponsored by the Scholarship fund of the Guatemalan Sugar Association and their Study Opportunities program, and executed by the ICC.
One of the commitments of the leaders that participated in the “Community adaptation to Climate Change training” is to train and share the knowledge gained during the workshops, which allows to have “more people prepared to adapt to climate change at the community level”, as Ronal Lopez, specialist of the ICC, stated. The training was developed from August to December, 2015.
The covered topics are: integrated watershed management, methods for soil and water conservation, climate change, adaptation to climate change, water harvesting and storage and disaster risk management. This was complemented with visits to fields to exchange experiences.
We will be uploading more news about this capacity building in climate change process soon.
