For the fourth consecutive year, the flow monitoring campaign for 10 rivers in western El Salvador, covering the departments of Ahuachapán and Sonsonate, has recently concluded successfully. This monitoring initiative, which has been ongoing since December 2024, is carried out in collaboration with Grupo CASSA.
During this season, monitoring was carried out at 27 sites distributed across the main rivers within the Cara Sucia–San Pedro, Sonsonate–Banderas, and Mandinga–Comalapa hydrographic regions. The section-velocity gauging technique was applied, using a high-precision current meter for flow measurement. Subsequently, systematic data recording and quality control were performed on the collected data. This methodology enabled a total of 324 gauging measurements throughout the season.
This effort aims to understand flow behavior during the dry season, generate technical information for water resource management, and support decision-making related to sugarcane crop management.
