Today morning, the ICC participated in the “First Departmental Forum of the Common Home of the Escuintla Land”, organized by the diocese of Escuintla.
The forum aims to promote “fraternal meetings between people and institutions from Escuintla for the responsible management of the human/ecological environment”, and thus propitiate dialogue that benefits people and nature.
During the activity, the reverend Ricardo Acosta from the Universidad del ISTMO, shared a summary of the Laudato Si encyclical written by Pope Francis, which talks about protecting the planet or the “common home”. Alex Guerra, PhD, director of the ICC, shared a presentation about the perspectives of climate change in Escuintla and the Governor of Escuintla, Aura Palala encouraged participants to engage in topics related to environment.
Around 125 people joined the event, including community leaders, representatives from local businesses, Ministry of Health, high school students and media.
“I hope to see you in the second forum”, said monsignor Victor Hugo Palma, organizer of the event.
