Today, the world commemorated the International Day for Disaster Reduction. In Guatemala City it was hosted at the Executive Secretariat of the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction CONRED.

The objective of the event is to promote best practices at the international, regional and national level across all sectors, to reduce disaster risk and disaster losses. This year’s target is focused on prevention, protection and reducing the number of people affected by disasters. This day was established by the United Nations.

People like Rebeca Arias, Coordinator of the United Nations based in Guatemala, and Sergio Cabanas, Executive Secretary of CONRED participated in the event. Also people from non-governmental organizations that contribute in disaster risk issues in the country participated in the event. Representing the ICC: German Alfaro and Amy Molina, both from the Disaster Risk Management program.
