The Private Institute for Climate Change Research ICC participated in the XIV Congress of Guatemalan Sugar Technicians, hosted in a hotel in Antigua Guatemala last August. The congress welcomed professionals from the Guatemalan Sugar Industry, to whom the ICC shared its experiences and recent studies.
The workshops shared by the professionals of the ICC were:
- The Southern Rivers Information System managed by the ICC and its results in 2017. Lourdes Castilla.
- Organizing water users in the watershed of Southern Guatemala to face water shortages and conflicts. Luis Reyes.
- From rivers to waterwheels and wells, a risky solution? Alex Guerra, PhD.
- The necessity to integrally manage water in Guatemala and the strategies of the sugar industry to face current and future challenges, Alex Guerra, PhD.
Also, the ICC participated in the panel “Productivity vs Sustainability”, in where the ICC shared about the importance of a sustainable management focusing in climate change in the sugar industry.
