The Private Institute for Climate Change Research, ICC, presented the Environmental Policy of the Guatemalan Sugar Industry to different sugar mills in the last weeks.
The presentations included the Palo Gordo, La Union and Magdalena sugar mills, who became familiar with details about the policy. The conversations were led by Gonzalo Lopez and Andrea Moreno who visited the Palo Gordo and La Union mills, while Alex Guerra, PhD, led the presentation at Magdalena.
The Environmental Policy was elaborated by the ICC, along with the Association of Guatemalan Sugar Producers ASAZGUA, and it incorporates several topics such as underground and superficial water management, sugar cane burn, appropriate use of agrochemicals, solid waste management, sewage water management, biological and diversity conservation, among others.
The presentations of the policy will continue in May and June of this year.
