Last November 8th, the National Institute of Forests INAB awarded the National Forest Award 2017. The purpose of this activity was to reward the successful projects and examples of sustainable forest management.
One of the awarded projects was the restoration of mangrove forests in the Blanca Cecilia Community, Iztapa, Escuintla, in the category of Forest Restoration, obtaining the third place.
This project has contributed to recover 10.58 ha of mangrove through reforestation techniques, as well as natural regeneration management in the location mentioned above.
This restoration has been successful due to the coordination, management, and implementation of restoration activities led by the Iztapa’s local mangrove board, and INAB, along the efforts of several communities, shrimp producers, Iztapa Aero club, government institutions and the ICC.
