On May 28, in a joint effort with the Local Mangrove Committees of Tiquisate and Nueva Concepción, and the Southern Coast Restoration Network, the 2025 Restoration Plan of the Network and the launch of the “Sembrando Huella” program by the National Forestry Institute (INAB) were carried out on the southern coast. The event also commemorated Tree Day, emphasizing the importance of conserving and restoring forest ecosystems in the region.
The event brought together representatives from various sectors, including government, private industry, academia, local communities, municipalities, and non-governmental organizations, all reaffirming their commitment to sustainable natural resource management. The active participation of members of the Southern Coast Restoration Network is strengthening ecological restoration efforts and promoting environmental development in the southern coast region. The 2025 goal is to plant 600,000 saplings in the area.
As part of the program, a formal ceremony was held featuring interventions by authorities and forest restoration experts, followed by a symbolic planting of 5,000 red mangrove propagules in the community of San Francisco Madre Vieja, Tiquisate. This represents a significant step toward the recovery of wetlands in the area. These initiatives continue to consolidate efforts to protect and restore forest ecosystems, fostering multisectoral participation in ecosystem restoration.
