On February 17th, a field tour was held with representatives from the Union of Latin American Sugar Producers (UNALA) at the Miravalle Meteorological Station in Sonsonate, El Salvador. This activity, organized by Grupo CASSA and guided by the Private Institute for Climate Change Research (ICC), aimed to share experiences on climate monitoring and its impact on Salvadoran agriculture.

During the visit, attendees had the opportunity to closely observe the operation of measurement equipment, as well as the processes of collecting and analyzing meteorological data. The importance of this data for decision-making in agricultural production, especially in sugarcane cultivation, was highlighted. Additionally, it was explained how climate monitoring can help plan agricultural activities and mitigate the risks associated with adverse climatic events, emphasizing the relevance of technology in improving the sector’s efficiency and productivity.

The Miravalle station, located in the municipality of Sonsonate, is one of the nine meteorological stations we use to generate climate information in El Salvador.

At the end, UNALA representatives expressed their congratulations to the ICC for their dedication and effort in providing quality meteorological products to Grupo CASSA. They also called for continued innovation in this field, promoting similar initiatives that strengthen the agricultural sector’s development through access to accurate and timely meteorological information. This activity reflects Grupo CASSA’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in agriculture.
