Plant production to restore upper parts of watersheds

January 15 , 2025

Our regional forest nursery in Parramos, located in Chimaltenango Guatemala, it is producing 90,000 forest plants of native species such as Pinus maximinoi (candelillo pine), Cupressus lusitanica (cypress), Quercus sp (oak), Pinus pseudostrobus, Pinus oocarpa and Alnus acuminata, destined for the restoration of the upper parts of the Achiguate and Coyolate watersheds by 2025.

Ninety thousand

forest plants will reforest the upper reaches of the Achiguate and Coyolate watersheds this year.

This process began in November of last year with the implementation of seedbeds for germination and has now culminated with the filling of bags with the appropriate substrate. The plants are expected to be ready in May-June for delivery to local farmers with whom the ICC work together in the reforestation of the areas.

This year, in addition to the production of plants in this nursery, 18 municipalities in the region are being supported with inputs and technical support for the establishment of municipal forest nurseries. This effort is possible thanks to ICC members and other allied institutions funding, who are committed to the restoration and conservation of local ecosystems.
