Private Institute for Climate Change Research, Guatemala. The Improving Construction Practices of Reinforced Masonry in Guatemala Seminar was developed this week. This seminar was organized by AGIES, Trocaire and ICC, and was hosted in Antigua Guatemala, since it was part of the project: Improving resilience in Central America through the implementation of the Sendai Framework”, which is developed with the financial support of the Commission for Humanitarian Help of the European Union ECHO.
During the workshop, several sessions about the importance of security regulations in construction, earthquake-resistance, masonry behavior in case of earthquakes, and masonry reinforcement were facilitated. Workshops were in charge of specialist in the matter from our country.
With this workshop, we aim to implement better techniques to elaborate construction materials, as well as to improve construction techniques, to reduce the risk for disasters in the case of natural phenomenon, such as earthquakes.
Representatives from the Municipal Direction for Planning DMP’s participated in the event, as well as CEMPRO, COMRED Antigua Guatemala, and representatives from CONRED Escuintla.
This seminar is the closing stage of a training process for Disaster Risk Management and Territorial Planning that targeted the DMP’s from the department of Escuintla. This process was coordinated along SEGEPLAN.
