In July, we started some climate change courses in Sololá, Guatemala, aimed to strengthen capacities of different actors in the department such as teachers and technicians from institutions and organizations. The courses are held within the framework of the project “Contributing to resilient socio-ecological landscapes in the face of climate change for prosperity and family nutrition in Guatemala and El Salvador.”
The courses are being held in different locations in the municipalities of San Lucas Tolimán and Sololá. Through this process, we aim to strengthen the capacities of the technical personnel of non-governmental organizations in climate change, especially in scientific issues of river basins and their role in ecosystem services; while for teachers, issues related to current environmental problems and climate change will be addressed.
The project is financed by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) through the ARAUCLIMA program, which seeks to support the countries of the region in their actions to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change, with the objective of preserving the environment and promoting sustainable development.
