Last Wednesday August 30, was held a field trip at the southern coast of Guatemala, developed by the international workshop of the Accelerator of Landscape Monitoring for Restoration, organized by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and supported by CATIE of Costa Rica and the 20×20 initiative.
Representatives of different organizations from 12 countries of Latin America participated at the field trip. René Zamora, Senior Manager of Restoration Policy for the Global Restoration Initiative of WRI’s Food, Forests, Water and Oceans Program, commented that participants seek to exchange experiences in monitoring restoration of riparian forests and related issues.
They also visited the riverside forest of Madre Vieja River at Patulul, Suchitepéquez where they observed at firsthand the evolution and progress of the riverside forest and carried out a discussion with local community leaders, government representatives and agribusiness companies where they shared the experiences of restoration process which exemplifies the joint work of all stakeholders involved.
Además, se visitó el bosque de ribera del río Madre Vieja, en el municipio de Patulul, Suchitepéquez, en donde observaron de primera mano los avances anteriormente mencionados y formaron parte de un conversatorio en donde líderes comunitarios locales, representantes de gobierno y empresas de la agroindustria, contaron las experiencia del proceso de restauración, que ejemplifica el trabajo en conjunto de todos los actores involucrados.
The 20×20 initiative is a regional alliance that seeks to bring more than 50 millions of hectares of degraded land of Latin America and The Caribbean to a conservation and restoration progress by 2030 by combining experience, commitment and capital to transform the land degradation dynamic and improve the restoration of the region.
