The Private Institute for Climate Change Research, ICC, is currently monitoring the phreatic level in 90 community wells.
With those actions, the ICC measures the phreatic level in different altitudinal points of the alluvial fan of the Fuego and Acatenango Volcanoes, which covers the Achiguate, Acome and Coyolate basins.
In June, the depth of the groundwater level was from 4.5 up to the 0.5 meters average. It is expected for phreatic level to increase as the rains do so.
The ICC will continue to monitor the wells in the rainy season and thus, to study the behavior of the underground water levels.
