Progress advances in the formulation of the Lempa River Basin Management Plan through a participatory workshop

March 18, 2026

On February 25, the “Somos Río Lempa” Conservation and Restoration Program held a follow-up workshop as part of the formulation process of the Basin Management Plan (BMP). The objective of the session was to advance the development of its Theory of Change, as well as to define objectives and strategic lines of action to guide its implementation. This meeting continued a previously initiated participatory process, strengthening coordination among the various stakeholders involved in the basin’s planning and management.

During the workshop, participants worked in groups to review, organize, and analyze the key actions that will be included in the BMP. As a result of this exercise, these actions were classified according to their level of relevance: those that are already well defined, those requiring adjustments, and those that still need to be incorporated. This process helped to better structure the main ideas and facilitated the identification of concrete and feasible actions.

The event included the participation of representatives from the private sector and academia, with the aim of identifying and prioritizing actions that support the sustainability of the basin. In this context, ICC contributed its expertise in data generation and in the design and implementation of climate change adaptation and mitigation projects in El Salvador and Guatemala, strengthening the technical approach of the process and supporting informed decision making.
