Transformative environmental education: students promote ecological awareness in Suchitepéquez

April 09, 2026

An educational workshop was held at INEB Lic. Julio César Méndez Montenegro in Mazatenango, Suchitepéquez, where 175 middle school students actively participated in learning sessions focused on the environment, waste management, and climate change. These types of activities are essential to strengthening knowledge, responsibility, and environmental commitment from an early age, fostering a culture of care and respect for the environment.

The event was organized by Industrial Engineering students from Universidad Mariano Gálvez in Mazatenango, who demonstrated the positive impact that can be achieved when higher education is effectively connected with the community. Through participatory methodologies and tailored content, the initiative successfully raised awareness among students about current environmental challenges and the importance of their role in building sustainable solutions.

At ICC, we supported and accompanied this initiative with the conviction that educating conscious, informed, and engaged youth is key to advancing toward a more sustainable future for Guatemala. We firmly believe that investing in young people is an investment in the future, as they will be the protagonists of the change our country needs.
